Chicago White Sox infielder Josh Rojas suffered a hairline fracture in his right big toe during a spring training game against the Colorado Rockies. Manager Will Venable announced Rojas is wearing a walking boot and the return timeline remains uncertain. Rojas, who signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract, was expected to be the starting second baseman for the 2025 season. His injury could enable other players such as Chase Meidroth or Brooks Baldwin to secure a spot on the big league roster if he is not ready for Opening Day.
Venable noted, 'From what I've heard, it's the pain tolerance. I don't think there's anything he can do running around out there that's gonna make it worse.'
Rojas was expected to take over as Chicago's everyday second baseman in 2025 while also providing insurance at third base.
The White Sox signed Rojas to a one-year, $3.5 million contract in January, looking for him to solidify second base.
If Rojas isn't ready in time for Opening Day, his absence could open up space for players like Chase Meidroth or Brooks Baldwin.
