Colson Montgomery, a Chicago White Sox prospect, connects with manager Will Venable through their shared basketball backgrounds. The 22-year-old shortstop, who previously had a strong season with the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers, is now competing for a spot on the White Sox's 26-man roster at their spring camp. Despite a challenging 2024 season with career-low batting averages, Montgomery emphasizes learning and moving forward from struggles, expressing excitement about the opportunities and competition ahead, as he aims to further develop his skills in baseball and secure a place within the team.
"I'm expecting a lot of opportunity and a lot of competition," Montgomery said Monday. "That's kind of what (general manager) Chris Getz has been saying and skip (Venable) has also been saying the same thing."
"It got to me a little bit," Montgomery said of the struggles. "I would just say at the end of the day, I'm human. So sometimes it's not going to go your way..."
