Cubs reliever Julian Merryweather has been diagnosed with a rib stress fracture in his back, leading to him being shut down entirely for a month for evaluation. The initial shoulder strain diagnosis turned out to be a back issue, possibly leading to a 60-day IL stint.
Despite showing high potential and a quality performance when healthy, injuries have plagued Merryweather's career. Starting with a Tommy John procedure, followed by oblique and abdominal strains, injuries have consistently disrupted his playing time, even though he excelled in his career-best '23 campaign.
