In the early hours of Wednesday, a man was shot outside Chicago's O'Hare International Airport following a brawl. The 25-year-old victim sustained injuries to his lower body and is now in stable condition. Police reported an ongoing investigation into the altercation, as well as potential evidence involving a white BMW. While people in the vicinity reported chaos, including shattered windows, authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the incident. Fortunately, regular airport operations resumed shortly after the event, and no further injuries were reported.
Raquel Barajas told local station WPIV-TV that a bullet hit her window, waking her up. I was terrified, so I honestly, these ear plugs saved my life, she added.
The police did not discuss publicly any possible motives for the altercation or the shooting or whether those involved knew each other.
The incident followed a fistfight that broke out shortly after midnight, according to media reports, and ended with the man being shot during the brawl.
Local television reports showed what appeared to be a shattered window near the baggage claim area.
