In 1923 episode 6, actor Brian Konowal portrays Clyde, a Scottish shepherd who violently turns against the Dutton family by killing the beloved character Jack Dutton. Clyde's evolution from a background character to a significant antagonist has captivated audiences, thanks to Konowal's performance and Taylor Sheridan's skilled storytelling and foreshadowing. Initially introduced as a seemingly harmless former police officer, Clyde's true allegiances are revealed as he is secretly working for the Dutton family's enemies. Konowal reflects on the complexity of his character, hinting at the darker path Clyde is now traversing in the series.
It’s the most dramatic jump I’ve ever seen of a TV character vaulting from background player to public enemy number one.
That’s what’s so great about Taylor, just his storytelling and his foreshadowing, Konowal says. He kills this character that everyone loves.
In another timeline, the kindhearted Duttons may have convinced Clyde to switch sides and take up their cause.
I can’t say that Sheridan gave Konowal much scenery to chew on that would sway the viewer one way or the other.
