One addendum to the Patriots/Falcons trade of last week: New England, believing the Bears and Falcons were in a similar category, and with third-round offers from both, gave OLB Matthew Judon his choice of being dealt to Atlanta or Chicago. Judon, obviously, picked Atlanta.
Matthew Judon is also a terrific player, albeit an older one than Sweat, and he too became available for trade this year. The New England Patriots fielded a pair of offers they deemed worthwhile for Judon, and once again, it apparently came down to third down selections offered by the Bears and Falcons.
This is a nice change of pace after the Falcons lost out on Sweat, but it's also a positive sign for the organization more broadly, given that Judon is a player accustomed to winning football, over 30 years old, and looking for a good fit that gives him a shot at more winning.
...the Falcons have made it clear they're to be viewed as a contender. Judon clearly agrees. This is little more than an encouraging footnote for the offseason - the fact that Judon is here is what matters - but it's yet more evidence that the Falcons are viewed as a team moving in the right direction after their hopes shattered and clattered to the ground in 2023.
