The Chicago White Sox acquired left-hander Tyler Gilbert from the Philadelphia Phillies, trading minor league right-hander Aaron Combs for the 31-year-old pitcher.
Gilbert had a solid performance last season with a 3.24 ERA in six relief appearances for the Phillies and also excelled at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
To accommodate Gilbert, the White Sox designated infielder Braden Shewmake for assignment, who struggled offensively with a .125 batting average in 29 games last year.
The White Sox continue to reshape their roster, moving on from Shewmake, while Combs, a recent draftee, had made a few impactful appearances at Class A.
