An Asian American Market Is Bringing Together Chicago's Top Chefs to Support Immigrant Communities
"groups that are on the ground here in Chicagoland, helping people understand their rights, whether they're citizens, residents, or undocumented."
"This is what the Chicago community does; people get involved,"
"It's been really incredible just to see what a community can do under a time of duress."
Tiger Moon Market will bring more than 30 Asian restaurants and chefs, including James Beard Award winners and Michelin-starred chefs, together on November 3 at Ramova Theatre in Bridgeport. Tickets cost $100–$150. Organizers will raise funds for ACLU of Chicago, Red Line Service, Organized Communities Against Deportations, Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, and National Immigrant Justice Center. Organizer Ed Marszewski framed the market as support for Chicago's marginalized communities and highlighted beneficiary groups that help people understand their rights. Ramova Theatre donated space, sponsors covered production costs, and chefs mobilized quickly amid heightened anxiety over recent ICE raids.
