Head coach Enzo Maresca has advised Ben Chilwell that it would be best for him to leave Chelsea in order to seek playing time elsewhere, hinting at the challenges posed by injuries. Chilwell has struggled to find a consistent position due to these issues, which have led to him losing his place in the team. With the transfer window remaining open, Maresca suggests a move could benefit both player and club.
Maresca expressed that Chilwell's lack of recent training and game time is detrimental to both parties, stating, 'The reason he did not play versus Inter was because, with Chilly it is quite clear, even though I love the way he is, the problem is, he is struggling a bit to find the right position.' His physical difficulties, alongside strong competition, leave his career at Chelsea uncertain.
The situation has become more pressing as Chelsea prepares for their opening match against Manchester City. Maresca noted, 'This morning we had 22 players training and if you ask all of them they will say they want to play against City on Sunday. But that is impossible.' He indicates the challenge of managing a large squad while ensuring players like Chilwell get the opportunities they deserve.
