'We're Unbendable There': Why Rivian Won't Ever Use Dealers
Briefly

Direct-sales models used by companies like Tesla, Rivian, and Lucid allow consumers to buy cars at a fixed price without complicated negotiations. This model is essential for manufacturers to control customer relationships and service experiences. Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe emphasizes the importance of this model, stating the company will prioritize direct sales even at the expense of short-term revenue. Unlike traditional manufacturers, who rely on dealerships, these companies manage customer interactions directly, thereby controlling messaging and addressing service needs efficiently.
"We have the advantage of we're direct only, and we're unbendable there. We will forego sales to make sure we maintain a direct relationship with consumers," Scaringe said.
"That puts the pressure on us. But we also think it's really important to be able to control the message, control how we talk to our customers, control every aspect of the service experience, control how we manage recalls."
