In Consumer Reports' first-ever brand ranking for used cars, Tesla ranked as one of the least reliable used car manufacturers, just three points from the bottom.
This distinction for used cars is a stark contrast to their performance in new car reliability, where Tesla ranked 14 out of 30 according to Consumer Reports.
Steven Elek, Consumer Reports' senior automotive data analyst, noted that multiple owners of earlier Model S cars reported needing replacement of key components like electric drive motors.
The ranking reflects that while newer models like the Model 3 and Model Y show improvements, older Tesla models have faced reliability challenges over time.
