NHTSA noted that reduced visibility arose from factors such as fog, sun glare, or dust, prompting an inquiry to assess FSD's capacity to detect these conditions.
The investigation will cover about 2.4 million Tesla vehicles equipped with FSD, including models S, X, 3, Y and the recently introduced Cybertruck.
Elon Musk has consistently opposed ultrasonic sensors and radar, relying instead on AI and cameras for full self-driving capabilities, raising questions about safety.
