Brian Castaneda Rodriguez, 21, was arrested and charged with two felonies for his role in a fatal crash in East Oakland last July that killed 18-year-old Askari Carr. The incident involved Rodriguez driving a stolen Honda Fit at high speeds when it collided with another stolen vehicle. Carr was ejected from the car during the crash and subsequently died. Rodriguez has pleaded not guilty and is being held on $500,000 bail, with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for later this month. Authorities are still seeking additional suspects in the case.
Authorities reported that the incident occurred late at night, with the stolen Honda Fit speeding at 68 mph in a 25 mph zone, leading to the fatal crash.
Rodriguez, who was unlicensed, has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene, while the investigation continues for the remaining suspects.
