Mercedes-Benz Is Getting Into EV Battery Recycling
Briefly

Mercedes-Benz is entering the battery recycling sector with its new facility in Southern Germany, marking it as the first car manufacturer globally to implement in-house battery recycling.
The facility’s annual output will support the production of approximately 50,000 battery modules, which means enough recycled materials for around 5,000 new EQE sedans, showcasing the efficiency of their recycling process.
Using a unique mechanical-hydrometallurgical process, this plant aims to minimize energy usage and waste compared to traditional pyrometallurgical methods, emphasizing technological innovation in battery recycling.
This pioneering plant in Europe encompasses all recycling steps, from shredding to extracting valuable metals like cobalt, nickel, and lithium, aligning with the broader goal of developing a sustainable EV supply chain.
