Karma Automotive is on a mission to redefine itself as America's ultra-luxury automaker, led by president Marques McCammon since 2023. The company stems from the failure of the Fisker Karma, launched in 2012, which, despite its innovative design, went bankrupt shortly thereafter. Rebranded multiple times, its current product mixes a unique series hybrid setup with various battery packs and a three-cylinder BMW engine. Although previously unsuccessful, this hybrid design is making a comeback in the EV market, signaling a potential revival for Karma's aspirations in luxury electric vehicles.
Marques McCammon has a lot to prove. He's president of Karma Automotive, a position he began in 2023, taking the lead of a company that's had a turbulent history, to say the least.
Its primary product is still basically that same car, though it's gone through a few name changes. What was originally the Karma became the Revero, then fell victim to an alphanumeric rebranding to GS-6 in 2021.
There is not an Aston, Ferrari, McLaren, or Lamborghini class of vehicle in the US.
Though the Karma’s series hybrid design has not turned out as hoped in the past, the approach is gaining traction again under McCammon's leadership.
