Judge ends years-long court battle, clearing the way for Right to Repair law
Briefly

A Massachusetts judge dismissed a lawsuit by car manufacturers challenging the Right to Repair Act, allowing it to take effect. Passed by voters in 2020, the law requires manufacturers to provide vehicle telematics data to owners, enabling access to their cars' mechanical health information. This empowers car owners to use independent repair shops instead of relying solely on dealerships. The ruling marks the end of an extended legal battle and supports consumer rights in vehicle servicing as more cars come out of warranty.
Today is a big win for both consumers and local independent repair shops alike," said Tommy Hickey, executive director of the Right to Repair Coalition, in a statement.
This lawsuit was intended solely as another delay tactic and they have run out of options with this judge's ruling against them.
