Hyundai is recalling over 145,000 Ioniq and Genesis vehicles due to a potentially dangerous 12-volt battery charging issue related to the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), posing crash risks.
The NHTSA reported that the vehicles' ICCU could be damaged due to internal electrical faults, which, upon failure, activates a fail-safe driving mode that gradually decreases drive power.
Affected models include the 2022-2024 Ioniq 5, 2023-2025 Ioniq 6, and 2023-2025 Genesis GV60 among others, with Hyundai notifying owners via mail starting January.
Hyundai's move to replace the ICCU, install new software, and provide reimbursements for expenses underscores the seriousness of the safety concerns raised by this recall.
