Hayward man charged in Oakland fatal hit and run where victim's leg was severed by stolen car

The incident on October 25, 2023, resulted in severe injuries to Luciano Carmona-Garcia, who died from blood loss after his leg was completely severed.

Jose Gonzalez, the alleged driver of the stolen SUV, fled the scene but left a Gatorade bottle that contained his DNA, which ultimately linked him to the crime.

Authorities solved the hit-and-run case after gathering information from an informant arrested for another stolen vehicle, which led to the identification of Gonzalez.

Gonzalez faces serious charges including vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident, and has multiple previous convictions related to car theft.
