Shane Burgman, the former Tesla Model S owner, highlights the challenge of readjusting to a traditional steering wheel after using a yoke, particularly missing the unobstructed view of the instrument cluster. However, he remains optimistic that this conventional layout will eventually become familiar. He states, "I didn’t think it would be an adjustment, but after having the yoke, the traditional layout feels weird. But I’ll get used to it."
Another aspect Shane notes is the video streaming capabilities that Tesla offers, saying, "What I truly enjoyed in my Model S was its seamless access to video streaming apps like Netflix and YouTube. It’s a shame that Rivian doesn’t have those features yet, as it definitely adds to the driving experience. I find myself missing that entertainment option during charging stops."
Shane addresses the Rivian R1S's heavy doors, sharing, "They feel extremely solid, but I didn’t expect them to be so cumbersome to close. At the price point of the R1S, I would have expected a soft-close feature, which would make it feel more luxurious. Instead, it's quite an effort to make sure they close properly, which can be frustrating."
Finally, he mentions audio quality in the Rivian, remarking, "While the upgraded audio system in the R1S is definitely better than average, it still doesn’t match the standard sound experience you get with Tesla. It's a bit disappointing, especially since I had high expectations after switching from such a renowned sound system."
