The European Commission is reportedly considering another reduction of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles from 36.3% to 35.3% ahead of a crucial vote on September 25.
China's Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, is in Europe to convince EU leaders to support China's proposals regarding the Commission's tariffs and reduce existing rates further.
The Commission’s initial tariff rates of 38% imposed on Chinese EV imports have been reduced mostly due to external pressures and discussions between important stakeholders.
While initial tariff reductions primarily benefited China’s largest automakers, foreign brands like Tesla received attention, lowering their tariff from 9% to potentially 7.8%.
