Amazon said Monday that the 2026 BMW iX3 will be equipped with Alexa+, the same generative AI tech that launched in millions of the e-commerce giant's smart devices last year. This will be the first vehicle to come with Amazon's next-generation voice assistant, the companies announced during the 2026 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas."

Efforts to develop natural language processing - a form of AI that lets computers understand and respond to human speech - have been in the works for more than a decade."
The 2026 BMW iX3 will be equipped with Alexa+, Amazon's generative AI voice assistant, making it the first vehicle to carry the next-generation assistant. Alexa+ already runs on more than 600 million devices, and Amazon plans to extend its LLM-powered voice and digital assistant to automotive and other device categories. The BMW-Amazon partnership began in 2022 and has spanned three years of collaboration to create a custom automotive implementation using Alexa Custom Assistant. Alexa+ was developed with Amazon Bedrock to leverage large language models. The integration will test the assistant's ability to handle complex, natural-language requests inside vehicles.
