The attack hit CDK Global Systems, a cloud-based software that runs all back-end financials and information on car sales, financing, repairs, maintenance, and more, affecting an estimated 15,000 car dealerships nationwide.
Ford and Kia mentioned that some operations were impacted, with dealerships starting to shut down from early Wednesday due to back-to-back cyberattacks.
CDK Global Systems, reportedly willing to pay tens of millions of dollars in ransom to stop the hack, is working on full service restoration with an internal investigation underway and cooperation with authorities.
