""The next generation of models are set to establish a new benchmark in the high-performance vehicle segment," says Franciscus van Meel, managing director of BMW M GmbH. "With the latest generation of Neue Klasse technology, we are taking the BMW M driving experience to a new level and will inspire our customers with outstanding, racetrack-ready driving dynamics for everyday use.""
""The Neue Klasse platform hews to the software-defined vehicle trend, where a handful of powerful computers each control a wide array of functions, rather than dozens or hundreds of discrete electronic control units in black boxes each doing a single job.""
""However, the important one here is called the Heart of Joy, which runs M-specific software, called BMW M Dynamic Performance Control.""
BMW is transitioning its electric lineup to the Neue Klasse platform, enabling fully electric versions like an i3 sedan and a forthcoming M-branded performance EV. Previous M-tuned EVs lacked true M characteristics, prompting a focus on distinct performance differentiation. Neue Klasse adopts a software-defined architecture where a few powerful computers manage multiple vehicle functions instead of many discrete control units. A dedicated M computer, called the Heart of Joy, runs BMW M Dynamic Performance Control to provide enhanced, racetrack-capable dynamics for everyday driving.
