I was more than a little surprised by some of the things people said to me in the year after my divorce. And the event was such a painful, raw chapter in my life that I fully admit some of the comments cut deep even if they were not meant to be mean and even if they were just said in passing.
You are not 'single parenting' when your partner is away for work or pleasure - for a lot of reasons. You still have two incomes (if you both work). You still usually have a helping hand, it's just busy at the moment. And you're not struggling with a lot of the ongoing landmines and barriers that your single and divorced friends face - 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 52 weeks out of the year.
