Danny Peart has passed away from glioblastoma, the same aggressive brain cancer that took his brother Neil Peart's life in January 2020. He died on March 13th, after over a year of battling the illness. Danny was known not just for his familial connection to the famous drummer but also for being a talented writer and member of the League of Canadian Poets. His death was announced by his sister Nancy Peart, who celebrated Danny's character and literary legacy, reaffirming his contribution to the family heritage.
On this dreary Sunday it is with great sadness that we share that this past Thursday evening we lost our third Peart man and 2nd brother, Danny, after his year and a half battle with glioblastoma (brain cancer). Danny shared our amazing Peart traits that all of our men carried, a true gentleman with a kind heart and generous spirit.
He'll be remembered, certainly, as a rock drummer. I hope he'll be remembered as a writer. Almost all of his books are still in print. And so I think he's got a legacy there.
I think he'll be remembered, certainly, by his friends. And I think - I don't know; time will tell - but all of us, when we write, when you're a musician, all of us are trying to last.
