Saturday's preliminary action saw a pair of Canadian records fall. Tristan Jankovics broke Brian Johns' Canadian record in the men's 400-metre IM, which had stood since 2003.
Finlay Knox also broke the Canadian record in the men's 50m breaststroke with a time of 26.30, although Knox did not advance to the semifinals.
On the women's side, Summer McIntosh and Mary-Sophie Harvey advanced to the women's 400m IM final while Sophie Angus made it to the semifinals of the women's 50m breaststroke.
Canada qualified a team for the final of the mixed 4x100m medley relay, thanks to the performances of Angus, Knox, Blake Tierney, and Penny Oleksiak.
