In New Bedford, federal immigration agents used a sledgehammer to break into a car to arrest 29-year-old Juan Francisco Méndez during a routine dental visit. The couple was waiting for their lawyer when confronted by officers insisting on entry. Despite their peaceful communication, including stating they were awaiting legal representation, the agents forcibly extracted them from their vehicle, raising questions about the methods used by immigration enforcement. Legal representatives expressed shock at the perceived brutality of the actions taken that day.
"The agents reached in, opened the front door, dragged both him and his wife out of the car, arrested him, and put him in their vehicle," Galvez Sniffin said. "I have never heard of this level of brutality."
"Abogada viene en camino," Francisco Méndez said to the officers, meaning their lawyer was on her way.
