Ubisoft closed its Halifax studio, laying off 71 staff members. The company attributed the closure to ongoing measures to make the company more efficient and reduce costs, citing company-wide actions over the past 24 months. Ubisoft said it will support impacted team members with comprehensive severance packages and career assistance. Assassin's Creed Rebellion, the Halifax project, has experienced steady revenue decline since its 2018 release. Sixty workers at the studio formed Ubisoft's first North American union in late December. Company representatives said the restructuring began well before the June 2025 unionization, while unions plan to seek explanations and challenge any link to unionization.
