Starting today, approximately 600,000 small businesses will receive federal carbon rebates totaling about $2.5 billion, addressing longstanding grievances regarding carbon pricing refunds.
Individual businesses will receive carbon rebates based on their province and workforce size, with example payouts ranging from $4,810 for 10 employees to $118,200 for 200.
The rebates are aimed at smaller companies with lower emissions who previously felt overlooked, as most carbon pricing revenue went back to households instead.
Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland emphasized the need for cooperation to pass upcoming legislation regarding a GST/HST holiday, complemented by other affordability initiatives.
