Police are looking for multiple suspects who stole more than $1 million in jewelry from Meza's Jewelry in El Monte. Owner Rosanna Meza's brothers discovered that both safes had been opened and most inventory was missing upon arriving at the store. Investigators believe four male suspects carried out the burglary during the night, breaking into other businesses and creating entry holes in the roof. The suspects disabled security cameras and stole the store's DVR, leaving authorities without video evidence. The store, unprotected by insurance, is now accepting customer orders to help rebuild its inventory.
Owner Rosanna Meza's brothers discovered the safes open and most of the inventory missing when they arrived at Meza's Jewelry on Sunday morning. The burglars stole approximately $1.5 million in jewelry, leaving only some 10 karat gold chains behind. The store lacked insurance to cover the loss, compounding the impact of the theft.
Investigators believe that four male suspects were present in the area between 9 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday. They broke into multiple businesses, including a shoe store and Boost Mobile, before making three holes in the roof of Meza's Jewelry.
The thieves not only took the jewelry but also disabled internet service and cameras, stealing the DVR that held footage from inside the store. As a result, police have no internal security footage of the burglary.
Meza expressed her devastation upon learning of the theft, stating that it felt as if all her hard work over the last five years was gone in an instant. The store is currently taking orders as it works to rebuild its inventory.
