Lisa MacLeod, the outgoing Progressive Conservative MPP, posted controversial remarks on social media regarding Husien Abu-Rayash, drawing accusations of Islamophobia and later issuing an apology for her statements.
Abu-Rayash expressed that it was 'deeply disappointing' that MacLeod chose to spread 'defamatory, hateful, and Islamophobic rhetoric,' stating he does not advocate for Sharia law in Canada.
The libel notice sent by Abu-Rayash acknowledged MacLeod's comments as a direct attack on his religion and an effort to undermine his candidacy in Nepean.
MacLeod's posts have since been deleted, but they prompted backlash from both the Muslim community and criticism regarding her influence on the nomination process.
