Fans at Raptors game continue trend of booing US national anthem at pro sporting events in Canada
Briefly

Raptors fans booed the American national anthem, following similar protests at NHL games, coinciding with U.S. tariffs announced by President Trump. The mixed reactions of applause for the Canadian anthem highlighted prevailing anti-American sentiment among some fans. Joseph Chua, who attended the game, felt directly impacted by the tariffs and chose not to boo, advocating for a more respectful expression of Canadian pride, such as chanting 'Canada.' This incident underscores the growing economic and political tensions between the U.S. and Canada amidst fears of a trade war, leading consumers to reconsider their shopping habits.
Joseph Chua, a Toronto resident who was at the game, said he's going to be feeling the tariffs 'pretty directly' in his work as an importer.
'I have a bunch of American family, friends that live in the states that are Americans...but I thought chanting, 'Canada,' would be a more appropriate stance,' said Chua.
We were already talking about what businesses are Canadian, specifically, what are American, specifically, what to avoid.
Trump declared an economic emergency in order to place taxes of 25% on imports from Canada and Mexico and 10% on imports from China.
