Crown to make closing submissions at trial of teen accused in swarming death of Toronto man | CBC News
Briefly

The trial of a 14-year-old girl accused of second-degree murder for fatally stabbing Kenneth Lee continues with prosecutors making final submissions. Lee was attacked by a group in a Toronto parkette in December 2022. While the accused pleads not guilty, her 16-year-old co-accused accepted a manslaughter plea. Defense argues the girl didn’t use the knife, supported by security footage showing intoxicated behavior. Lee died at the hospital due to blood loss from a stab wound to the heart, raising questions about the culpability of the minor in the assault.
The Crown alleges the younger girl stabbed Lee with a knife in the final moments of violent swarming that lasted roughly three minutes and 20 seconds.
In his closing submissions...defence lawyer Boris Bytensky said the girl didn't have a knife at any point that night and none was recovered during the investigation.
Lee, 59, died on the operating table at St. Michael's Hospital on Dec. 18, 2022, after he was beaten and stabbed.
