A group of Canadian news outlets, including CBC/Radio-Canada and the Toronto Star, has initiated a joint lawsuit against OpenAI, citing copyright infringement and seeking punitive damages.
In their lawsuit, companies like the Globe and Mail asserted, 'OpenAI is capitalizing and profiting from the use of this content, without getting permission or compensating content owners.'
The organizations argue, 'OpenAI regularly breaches copyright' by utilizing articles from their publications, specifically for products such as ChatGPT.
The plaintiffs are demanding an injunction to prevent OpenAI from using their news articles in the future, along with payment for any profits made.
