The new Canada Disability Benefit is expected to lift about 25,000 working-age persons with disabilities and their family members out of poverty annually, missing the initial goal of helping hundreds of thousands as stated during the legislation introduction in 2022.
The benefit will provide a maximum of $200 monthly to low-income Canadians with disabilities, with only 600,000 out of 1.6 million eligible for the new program, as indicated in the federal budget released in April.
