Advocates call for Ontario to make HIV prevention drugs free as cases climb | CBC News
Briefly

"When I was growing up, it was on television all the time, and that's really not the case anymore. But HIV is still present. People are still getting diagnosed with HIV, and this may be your brother or your sister or your loved one." Dr. Kevin Woodward emphasizes that despite diminishing public awareness, HIV remains a pressing issue in Canada.
"If taken correctly, these drugs can decrease the risk of transmission almost entirely. The problem that we have in Ontario, specifically, is that the uptake of PrEP has not been great," Woodward notes, suggesting that accessibility issues are causing a significant barrier.
"Although there's lots of government programs to help pay for it, if you're someone who is a newcomer or even lived in Canada for your entire life, navigating all of those systems can be really difficult," Woodward highlights the challenges individuals face in accessing preventive medications.
