A second exile': Nepal moves to expel refugees already deported by the US
Briefly

Ashish Subedi faced deportation from the US after a domestic dispute, having grown up in a refugee camp in Nepal. His family was forced out of Bhutan in the 1990s and later resettled in the US. Following his deportation, Bhutan refused to accept him and he was sent toward India, where he arranged to be smuggled back into Nepal. Upon arrival, he was arrested for illegal entry. Both his experiences in US detention and in Nepal reflect the trauma of being stateless and the difficulties faced by many refugees, as Nepal initiates deportations with controversial implications.
"I thought I'd be released soon, the Ice officers even said so. I never thought I'd be deported, let alone twice."
"The country that once gave us shelter detained me, he says, still stunned. Being handcuffed again felt like a second exile."
