Toronto's Confronting Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee approved a motion requesting Toronto Community Housing to collect and publish disaggregated race-based data on evictions, arrears, and tenant relocations. An Ombudsman Toronto report earlier found weaknesses in tenant protections. If another city committee approves the motion next week, the disaggregated data is expected to be available in January. A 2023 TCHC survey found nearly 42 percent of tenants identify as Black. Many families view entry into TCHC as a last resort, and evictions from social housing can push tenants into homelessness. Community organizers report encountering multiple cases of Black tenants facing eviction.
