Woman who allegedly killed San Francisco woman in head-on collision takes plea deal
"On the afternoon of April 22, 2023, Martin entered southbound Highway 280 in a northbound direction in her Ford Fusion, prosecutors said. Just north of the exit at Woodside Road, Martin struck a BMW head-on, killing driver Eden Palmer of San Francisco and injuring her son. Palmer had been driving her son to a soccer match on the Peninsula at the time of the collision, which also killed the family's dog."
"Martin fled the scene and police located her 150 yards away, laying naked on the grass. Martin screamed numerous bizarre statements, and she had red, watery eyes and rapid speech. Martin refused to answer questions asked by officers and refused to allow officers to examine whether she was under the influence of drugs, declining sobriety tests. After she was arrested, a blood test showed evidence of marijuana use in her bloodstream but no other drugs."
Constellatia Martin, 26, pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving, facing up to nine years eight months in prison. The crash occurred April 22, 2023, when Martin drove southbound in a northbound direction on Highway 280 and struck a BMW head-on near the Woodside Road exit. The BMW driver, 54-year-old Eden Palmer, was killed; her 16-year-old son sustained major injuries requiring lifelong care, and the family dog died. Martin fled but was found 150 yards away, naked and exhibiting bizarre behavior. A blood test detected marijuana. A judge denied mental health diversion due to prior treatment noncompliance and an inadequate treatment plan. Martin remains jailed without bail.
