Travelers beware: Back-to-back storms to hit Tahoe, Sierra Nevada this week
Briefly

"There's a slight wall between Thursday afternoon and early Friday," said Gigi Giralte, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Reno. "So Thursday could be a good chance to travel. However, this weekend, it's looking a little more dicey just because of the expected precipitation that we have."
The first of the two storms this week arrives on Tuesday, said Sara Purdue, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento. Tahoe is at the southern end of this system and may see snow flurries at higher elevations, with rain below.
A bomb cyclone could bring as much as 8 inches of rain to Northern California this week. In the mountains, the forecast is more of a moving target, with two separate storm systems, changing temperatures and shifting snow levels.
Meanwhile, the early snowstorms are a boon for California ski resorts, several of which have announced they're opening earlier than expected. Vail's Heavenly Ski Resort in South Lake Tahoe is opening on Wednesday, Nov. 20, followed by Northstar California Resort on Thursday.
