Just before 3:30 a.m., CHP received a call about sideshow activity involving about 100 vehicles blocking Pomona and Merchant streets near the Interstate 80 onramp in Crockett. Officers arrived and then learned a spectator had fallen from an elevated section of the I-80 overpass. The teen fell approximately 75 feet and was pronounced dead at the scene. Witness statements indicated the death appeared to be accidental. The identity of the deceased has not been released and no arrests have been made of drivers or spectators. Sideshows pose dangers to both drivers and spectators and can lead to misdemeanor citations or arrest for spectators.
