Serial squatter allegedly exploits dozens of Malibu homeowners - and problem could get worse due to LA wildfires
Briefly

A Malibu real estate agent has raised alarms for local homeowners about a serial squatter, Ellie Mae McNulty, who allegedly deceived and exploited trusting residents for years. With the community's close-knit environment, McNulty was able to ingratiate herself with vulnerable individuals, continually deflecting rent responsibilities. As the agent noted, this kind of predation can easily occur when residents are lulled into a false sense of security about their neighborhood's safety, especially following recent wildfires that may exacerbate vulnerability.
"I don't know how she got away with it for so long in Malibu with the amount of people that she did," Liz Benichou expressed.
"First of all, how she's been able to do this for so many years without getting caught, I think that just has to do with her overall charm. I think she's a predator, and she finds people that are weak that she can prey on," Benichou said.
