As rain approaches, Los Angeles County officials have issued warnings about heightened risks of mudslides and flash flooding in burn areas from recent wildfires, especially the Eaton fire that affected over 14,000 acres. The National Weather Service has declared a flood watch, prompting safety measures for those living near the affected zones. Meteorologist Kristan Lund emphasized the severity of the situation, urging residents to prepare for potential debris flows and take necessary precautions including avoiding the area and using sandbags for protection.
"This is the worst-case scenario to prepare for," said Kristan Lund, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
"We do have increasing concern for the burn scars," Lund said, referring to the charred footprint of the Eaton fire, which blackened more than 14,000 acres.
