"When that other police vehicle came and took him out, that was necessary,"
"I know their thought process. I have to stop this guy, because this can't continue,"
"Because if he gets away again, if he takes somebody else's car, we're going to be in another pursuit. We're going to have more bullets flying, and there's more chance of people being killed."
A multi-day crime spree began in Sacramento and culminated in a hours-long pursuit from San Jose to Hollister and back. The suspect committed multiple carjackings, engaged in at least two shootouts with Hollister Police and San Benito County sheriffs, and shot a San Jose police sergeant. Video from a Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department helicopter captured the suspect being struck by a patrol vehicle after the shooting. The pursuit scattered dozens of cars during a busy commute and prompted statements from retired and active officers emphasizing the necessity of stopping the suspect to prevent further violence.
