'Pretty strong signal for a major heat wave' enters California forecast
Briefly

"This is a pretty strong signal for a major heat wave, especially in Central and Southern California, and given the time of year, it's possible that there could be some modest offshore flow with that," Swain said Friday in a live forecast broadcast on YouTube.
"It's moving in from the Pacific, and then after that high pressure moves in from the Pacific, it spreads north, all the way into British Columbia," said Bryan Jackson, a meteorologist with the weather service's Weather Prediction Center.
Jackson called it a "typical summertime pattern, even though it's the first week of September." The warm-up is expected to come as high pressure builds over the West Coast.
Summer heat waves in California are often focused on inland areas, as onshore winds act as natural air conditioning and blow cool air off the ocean toward the coast.
