Following the Eaton fire that began on January 7, fire victims residing at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium were moved to a shelter in Duarte. As occupancy declined from a peak of 1,500, the American Red Cross and city officials sought to transfer the remaining 250 individuals to facilitate recovery and prepare the auditorium for scheduled events. The new shelter will provide ongoing support and resources as residents work towards permanent housing amid the devastation that left over 9,400 homes destroyed and 17 fatalities.
The goal was to move the remaining fire evacuees from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium to a smaller building in Duarte, maximizing resources and support for recovery.
