DALY CITY - A house caught fire Tuesday morning in Daly City, injuring a resident and a firefighter, fire officials said. The fire broke out around 8:35 a.m. in the first block of Mateo Avenue, according to the North County Fire Authority. Crews arrived to find the first floor of a two-story home filled with heavy smoke and a bedroom in flames, fire officials said. They put out the fire while searching the residence.

New Yorkers are being urged to check the safety of their homes as the FDNY relaunches a citywide campaign to prevent deadly fires. The #GetAlarmedNYC initiative aims to put smoke alarms in thousands of homes across the five boroughs, making sure families have an early warning in case of danger. Since the program began, 309,000 smoke alarms have been distributed citywide.

"We are very worried about ICE," she said. "Because immigrants are scared to go to shelters as is."

Rodriguez said she initially felt anxious about her performance after responding to a fatal fire, but was reassured by the Red Cross mental health team's support.
