A 59-year-old woman mushroom hunting in Jackson Demonstration State Forest went missing after wandering away from her friends around 5 p.m. on January 27. Concerned for her safety, her friends alerted the Mendocino County deputies at approximately 8:30 p.m. Efforts to locate her that night were unsuccessful. However, on January 28, as search and rescue teams were mobilizing, she unexpectedly emerged from the woods with only a minor injury, receiving treatment on-site.
Deputies said they started searching the area again Jan. 28 at about 7 a.m. But just as search and rescue volunteers arrived, the missing mushroom hunter "walked out of the woods."
