A fatal motorcycle accident on I-80 near Berkeley caused major traffic backups between Emeryville and Richmond Sunday evening. The backup began near Gillman Street and extended about eight miles. One westbound lane remained open while all eastbound lanes were closed after the crash, which occurred shortly after 3 p.m. Lanes reopened around 7:30 p.m. California Highway Patrol reported the motorcyclist went over the center divide, entered oncoming traffic, and died as a result of the collision.
