Map shows where PG&E could shut off power in Northern California amid heat wave
Briefly

PG&E is making preparations to intentionally shut off power to thousands of customers across Northern California where a multiday heat wave is expected to bring the hottest temperatures of the year so far.
When conditions are hot, dry and windy, energized power lines can get knocked over and spark wildfires that spread quickly in the dry vegetation. The utility company turns off power as a way to help prevent wildfires.
Outages are likely to go into effect Tuesday with the power likely returning on Wednesday, according to the map.
"High temperatures away from the immediate coastline are forecast to reach into the 100-110F range, which could break numerous daily records in the San Joaquin and Sacramento valleys."
